Content marketing is one of the most important aspects of SEO. It is very difficult to rank your website in the search results when you have little content. You probably hear all the time how content marketing and SEO go together and how important it is to have fresh content on your site, but nobody really tells you why it is so important.

Websites without much content typically resort to paid strategies such as Google Ads to get their website in front of people, since they cannot get their website ranked. Both SEO and SEM can be helpful, but content marketing is a great way to simplify SEO. I am going to go over the top 5 reasons why SEO needs content marketing.

1. Search Engines Try to Rank the Highest Quality Content

Another thing that you probably have heard all the time is “SEO is always changing.” The reason that SEO is always changing, is because search engines are constantly updating their algorithms to be sure that they are showing their users the most high-quality content. Their main goal is to give the searcher exactly what they are looking for.

Search engines have many ways to determine the quality of content. Search engines try to determine how well your content is helping users get the information they are searching for. This is a big reason it is important to have high-quality content that answers the questions that users have.

2. Content Helps Search Engines Understand your Website

Without content, there would really be no way for search engines to understand what your website is about and get you ranked. They use the content on your website and the keywords that are used on your website to determine what your website is about and rank the pages on your site accordingly.

The more content you have on your website helps show search engines what you should be ranking for on each page of your website. There is obviously a lot more than just the keywords you use that go into where you rank, but having the content in place is a starting point.

Content length is a proven ranking factor. Content that has 2,000 words has a higher chance of ranking than content that has 300 words. One of the main reasons is because there is a better chance that you are going to provide useful information with 2,000 words than 300 words.

This doesn’t mean that you should only focus on the length of your content. Search engines do the best that they can to provide the best user experience for the people using their search engines. For that reason, they are going to try to find content that goes in depth about topics, so that their users can find all of the information they are looking for in one place rather than having to navigate to multiple websites in order to find the information they need.

4. Quality Content Helps User Experience

As I mentioned in the last point, search engines would much rather have their users finding all of the information they need on one site, because that provides them with the best user experience. If you have little or no content on your site, you won’t be able to provide much value for the users who are searching for what you have to offer.

A good way to look at this is to think about yourself performing searches with search engines. Think about exactly what provides you with a good experience and what provides you with a bad experience. When you go to a website without much information, you are probably going to be frustrated since you are looking around for longer than you had to. If search engines put the result that provides the best information at the top, that is going to provide users with the best experience possible.

5. Quality Content is Linkable

One of the most important ranking factors is the number of backlinks you have to your pages. A backlink is simply any other website linking to your website in their content. There are many reasons that websites would want to link to other sites, but the main reason is that the site is linked to has some sort of high-quality resource or content.

The best way to get backlinks to your site and boost your traffic is to create high-quality content or a high-quality resource. The idea behind this is to create content that people will actually want to link to. If you have something valuable that someone wants to show their readers, they are going to link to you in order to give their website visitors the best experience.
